The EGA by BOCA supported the standard 640 x 350 in 16 colours from a palette of 64, with full backward-compatibility to MDA, CGA and Hercules standards. Boca Research was typical with this card in using a very clean design and use of modern VLSI components to ensure reliability. It was competitively priced too at $199 list price from launch.
The card came with a disk of utilities including a screen saver, a RAM-based loadable character generator, a mode change utility, and diagnostic software.
Board Revisions
I have no information on the various board revisions on the EGA by BOCA card.
Competition
In 1987, lots of graphics card manufacturers had risen up to provide alternatives to IBM's EGA which cost $982 at the time the Boca EGA card went on sale. Other popular third-party EGA cards at the time included Video 7 VEGA, Paradise Autoswitch EGA, and Genoa Spectra EGA (Model 4800).
