"The $399 Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM PCI is engineered around the 64-bit S3 Vision964 chip, a Brooktree 485 RAMDAC, and 2MB of 60-ns VRAM (upgradable to 4 MB). The board worked flawlessly with the PC Labs WIndows mainstream usability tests. On our benchmark tests, it ranked consistently at or near the top in all Windows tests, and performed acceptably on the DOS tests.

Like its PCI sibling, the $399 Stealth 64 VRAM VLB ranked at or near the top on all Windows benchmarks. On our 66 MHz 486DX2 test platform , it could not keep up with required video refresh rates.

The $289 Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM PCI uses the Vision864 graphics engine, 2MB of 70-ns DRAM memory, and an inexpensive S3 SDAC RAMDAC.

The skinny, oblong Stealth64 DRAM VLB differs from its PCI sibling only in bus type. It ranked within 10 percent of the top boards, even VRAM VL-bus boards, on all benchmark tests.

The differences between DRAM- and VRAM-based graphics cards were apparent in two areas. The DRAM cards support lower maximum refresh rates, and their overall benchmark performance as a bit lower. If you have a monitor supporting ultra-high refresh rates beyond the VESA standard or you intend to use 16.7 million colors regularly, you would probably be better satisfied with a Stealth VRAM card."
