The ELSA Trio64 copied the S3 reference design of the Trio64 almost exactly, as did most other graphics cards manufacturers that employed S3's new 64-bit graphics accelerator chip in 1994.
The Trio64 was S3's first shot at combining a RAMDAC, clock generator and the 2D graphics engine from the earlier Vision864 chip into a single ASIC. Despite the Trio64 itself supporting PCI and VLB buses, as well as up to 4 MB of DRAM, ELSA chose to limit their use to just the PCI bus and a maximum of 2 MB of RAM.
1 MB variants have the top two RAM locations empty. None of the RAM is socketed, so upgrading 1 MB card to 2 MB would require soldering.
