The Nitro DVD was a relatively low-budget card based on the S3 ViRGE/GX chipset. As such, it found its way into numerous OEM systems in 1997.

The card could display at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200, and had some 3D capabilities including hardware acceleration of texture maps, bilinear and trilinear filtering, MIP-mapping, alpha blending/transparency, fogging, perspective correction, Gouraud shading, double-buffering, and a z-buffer.

2D hardware acceleration included BitBlt (bit-block transfers), line drawing, cursor operations, dual address bus, and read/write bursting.

It supported DirectX, Direct3D, DirectVideo and the S3 APIs.
